Teaching ballet to kids is a great way to help them learn discipline, get exercise and also express their creativity. Here are some tips for helping your kids practice ballet.
1. Scarf practice
For very young kids, you can help them practice ballet by using a scarf.
+ Group kids into a circle and give each of them a scarf and tell them to hold it in their right hand, then have them put their left hand on their hip and touch their feet together.
+ The scarf will be dangling down to the ground and it will help them see how holding their hand out can be such a graceful movement.
+ Then you can have them bend down at the waist and wave their scarves over their toes and heels to get familiar with the dusting motion.
2. Be encouraging
It’s important to help kids stay on practising by making them feel good about their progress.
+ Make sure that you are encouraging as a parent and offer them praise and constructive criticism.
+ Try asking them how they are feeling about it and stay attuned to their needs.
3. Take an interest
Your kids will be much more interested in practising and in continuing on with ballet if their parents are interested.
+ Make sure to be attentive and to answer any questions they have about it.
+ Get to know your child’s teachers and fellow students and take time out of your day to practice with your child.
+ They will appreciate your interest and will be excited to show off their new skills after each ballet class.
4. Help them get other kinds of exercise
Ballet requires a lot of strength and endurance. Make sure your kids get plenty of other exercise so that they will feel strong and capable while they are practising ballet.
+ They will feel more confident in their moves if they know that they have the muscle toning and strength they need to perform well.
It’s great to get your kids started early when it comes to practising ballet. It will teach them valuable skills and discipline that they can apply to other aspects of their lives as well.
