Simple tips for better hair and less dandruff

Dandruff flakes and messy hair can make even the most polished of us look unkempt. Keep dandruff in check and master the art of braiding and you’ll be ready to go.

Tackle dandruff

Although harmless, dandruff can be itchy and the little white flakes are unsightly and embarrassing. These are some ways to stop dandruff:

  • Treat with medicated shampoo or tea tree oil shampoo. Wash at least three times a week and rinse thoroughly.
  • Massage, rather than scratch, your scalp when using shampoo to avoid causing unnecessary irritation.
  • Brush hair daily to help remove flakes of dead skin, but avoid scraping the scalp too roughly.
  • Change or stop using hair products, such as gels and sprays, to see if your dandruff improves.
  • See a doctor if the dandruff doesn’t respond to home treatment, or if your scalp is irritated or infected.
  • Continue using medicated shampoo at least once a week after your dandruff clears up.

The easy way to braid

A basic braid is a simple and attractive way to keep long hair tidy. All you need are a brush, comb and an elasticated band.

  1. Thoroughly brush and comb dry hair to remove tangles.
  2. Gather the hair as for a ponytail where you want the plait to be — usually the nape of the neck, or high on the back of the head.
  3. Divide the hair into three sections.
  4. Holding the right and middle sections in your left hand, separated by your fingers, take the left section across the middle. Then take the right section and cross it over that.
  5. Continuously changing hands, take sections alternately from the left and right over the middle, pulling tightly as you please.
  6. When the braid is as you want it, secure the end with a band.

Tidy and dandruff-free hair is important for any look. With these simple tips, your hair can be healthier and look its best.
